The Biggest Winner of the Olympics? Knitting!

Over the last two weeks, people around the world watched their country’s athletes compete in the Olympics in Tokyo. For a group of us, however, one athlete found his way into our hearts. That athlete was diver Tom Daley from Great Britain. Why? Because crocheters and knitters around the world watched him stitch his way through his competitions!

What really blows my mind is Tom only started knitting a year ago to help him cope with the stress of preparing for the Olympic games. His knitting speed and ability is only rivaled by his diving ability.

His Instagram page, @madewithlovebytomdaley, gained thousands of followers by the day (including me!). I especially loved his medal cozy for his gold medal.

“The one thing that has kept me sane throughout this whole process is my love for knitting, crocheting and all things stitching,” Daley said on the Instagram post when he revealed his medal cozy.

That is hardly a secret to those of us who knit and crochet on a regular basis. Not only do we make wonderful items for ourselves, our friends, our family, and others, we also know it makes us happy and calms our nerves.

So while there were plenty of winners at the Olympics, for one Olympian, I was team GRB!
